Security Improvement Grant Program
The Security Improvement Grant Program offers a matching grant up to $2,500 for eligible physical improvements that enhance the safety and security of a business or public space. District businesses, property owners and agencies are eligible. Applicants participate in a required security survey, which identifies practical cost effective improvements that will have the greatest impact. Interested businesses may schedule a security survey review by contacting the Hampton Police Department at 727-6574. For further information or questions, please contact Coliseum Central at 826-6351.
Cooperative Security Program
Coliseum Central's Cooperative Security Program is a voluntary participation program designed to enhance both the Hampton Police presence within the District as well as to bolster private security efforts at individual properties. This is done through the use of extra-duty police officers. Extra-duty officers are sworn, uniformed Hampton Police who operate out of marked city vehicles and use City-issued uniforms and equipment. They operate in conjunction with the on-duty Hampton Police. They are NOT off-duty police or private security guards who often work independent for the on-duty police. These extra-duty officers provide additional presence, visibility and assistance over and above what is already provided by the Hampton Police Department. Participating businesses contribute a fixed monthly fee to offset the cost of hiring these extra-duty police officers to patrol their properties. A businesses' specific contribution is negotiated and determined on a case-by-case basis.
The Coliseum Central Business Improvement District and the City of Hampton both provide matching funds to help maintain the program. If you would like more information about this program, call Coliseum Central at 826-6351.
