The BID hosts a quarterly lecture series to inform and educate local property owners about the importance of using sound design principles when building on their property or upgrading existing buildings. Recent Design Trends lectures have covered topics such as "The importance of promoting pedestrian connectivity" and "How well designed commercial signs can help businesses compete". These lectures are presented free and they are open to the public.
Public Fixtures Enhancement Program Under this program the BID sets aside funds to support the upgrade of public fixtures and amenities when such upgrades will significantly improve the physical appearance of the District. Examples of such enhancements include the installation of upgraded bus stop benches and bus shelters.
Advocacy on Land Use Policy, Capital Spending Policy, and on Key Developments in the District Coliseum Central BID sometimes plays an advocacy role supporting policies or actions that will improve our District. For example, the BID and its stakeholders often support community land use policies that will result in the enhancement and improvement of the District. Similarly, the BID and its stakeholders sometimes support the expenditure of government resources on public infrastructure improvements within the District that will either beautify the District and/or facilitate or attract new development. Also, the BID and its stakeholders sometimes support new developments that are consistent with the adopted Coliseum Central Master Plan and are deemed to be beneficial to our local economy.
The BID allocates funds to fight litter and keep the District clean. We use these funds support Voluntary Community Clean-up Days during which community volunteers meet on a Saturday morning and then break up into small teams to pick up litter at key sites within the District. We also use these funds to to hire workers to pick-up litter in the District. |
