The theater will be complete in the second
phase of the Hampton Place project and will consist of pre-produced
shows by Corporate Magic, which is part of Gaylord Entertainment. The
shows will be similar to those found in Branson, Missouri and Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina. This will be the first theater of its kind in
Hampton Roads.
In addition to the Hampton Place, several other major projects are underway in the Coliseum Central District. These developments include the Peninsula Town Center, the redevelopment of Mercury Boulevard, the expansion of the Sentara medical complex, the H20 Residential Community, Newmarket Creek Park & Trail system and the Power Plant of Hampton Roads. Right outside the District, there are two other major projects getting ready to break ground: The Hampton University Proton Beam Cancer Therapy Center and the Boo Williams sports facility.

2006 Coliseum Central Awards Presented

Several awards were presented at the Coliseum Central Annual Meeting that was held recently at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, in which over 500 people attended. One of these awards was the Pillar of Prestige Award for business person of the year, which was presented to Lee Fields of Holiday Inn Hampton Hotel & Conference Center. Mr. Fields was recognized for his dedication and contributions to the Coliseum Central Business Improvement District. Another award presented was the Orchid Award for best-maintained property. The award was presented to Chick-fil-A, located at 2140 Coliseum Drive, for the exceptional upkeep of their property and contributing to the beautification of the Coliseum Central Business Improvement District. Furthermore, the Metamorphosis Award was presented for the most improved property in the Coliseum Central Business District. The award was presented to Golden Corral, located at 1123 W. Mercury Blvd. Additionally, the Renaissance Award was awarded for the best-designed new construction in the District. The award was presented to Panera Bread for their newly constructed restaurant located at 2170 Coliseum Drive. A new award that was presented this year is the Keep Coliseum Central Beautiful Award. Wynne Ford, located at 1020 W. Mercury Blvd. was presented with this award for their commitment to a clean business community. Coliseum Central would like to congratulate all of the precipitants of the 2006 awards and to thank each winner for their positive contributions to the Business District.

Central Community Clean-up Days
Coliseum
Central holds several Volunteer Community Clean-up Day throughout the
year. Volunteers meet at a predesignated place in the District for a
breakfast snack and to receive their assigned clean-up area. If you
would like to participate in the upcoming or future clean-up days, call
Verna Brundin at 826-6351.
How can your business be involved?
There are several ways your business can become involved in these community clean-up days. Your company can become involved by asking your employees to volunteer to help pick up litter, hosting a future clean-up day, donating bottled water, or by providing gift cards or coupons to be given as prizes to the volunteers of the business that has the most people at the clean-up event. Peninsula
Town Center
The transformation of Coliseum Mall into the Peninsula Town Center is now underway. Mall Properties has partnered with Steiner + Associates, the pioneers of the authentic urban town center concept, to develop this over $200 million project. When completed, the town center will encompass nearly one million square feet of mixed uses including retail, dining and entertainment situated around a town square and a public park with children’s play fountain. The redevelopment will involve the demolition of the entire mall, with the exception of the Macy's store, which will receive a new exterior. The project is projected to be completed in the Spring of 2009. During the construction JC Penny and Macy's will remain open. Burlington Coat Factory along with Firestone Tires will move to Mercury Plaza, which is also owned by Mall Properties. Plaza Redevelopment Underway
Mercury Plaza is now in the process of redevelopment. Texas Steakhouse
Saloon, Cracker Barrel and Wachovia are open. Burlington Coat Factory and Firestone Tires will be moving to Mercury Plaza from the former Coliseum Mall site. Construction has begun on these new locations which are expected to open in the near future. Pictured right is the new Burlington location being constructed. New announcements regarding

BJ's Wholesale Club Now Open
BJ's Wholesale Club has opened in the Power Plant of Hampton Roads and celebrated its grand opening with an "opening rally" on December 2nd. The wholesale club also includes gas pumps and offers a low price per gallon to members.
Also at the Power Plant, SpringHill Suites Marriott and Hilton Garden
Inn are now under construction. Hilton Garden Inn will feature approximately
145 rooms with Internet access, an indoor pool, fitness facilities and
an on-site restaurant. SpringHill Suites Marriott will have approximately
125 suites with Internet access,an indoor pool and a fitness facility
as well.
The
Power Plant of Hampton Roads also includes a lakeside development. The
lakeside and boardwalk development is located next to Bass Pro Shops
and includes Joe's Crab Shack, Cold Stone Creamery, McFadden's Restaurant
& Saloon, Starbucks, and Saddle Ridge Restaurant. These businesses
include outdoor decks, live entertainment, and dancing which creates
a dynamic entertainment experience. Other business located in the Power
Plant project that are open include Sonic Drive-in, CiCi's Pizza, Lowe's
Home Improvement warehouse, Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon.

City Council Passes Coliseum Central Master Plan
The Hampton City Council approved the updated Coliseum
Central Master Plan. This important new plan was developed after months
of public input and will be used as a guideline for future development
policies affecting the District in the coming years. See Coliseum Central's
